Humpty Dumpty

It's been a few days, so let's get caught up.

When I left flooded Texas, I arrived in freezing New Mexico. I did take the back roads, but when I was an hour out, the GPS routed me to this dirt road. It looked pretty dry and compacted, so I decided to try it. I got 1.5 miles down and came across an area of the road with a large mud puddle. One side didn't have water, so I tried going through it. As I was coming out, Jack started to fishtail. I have no idea how I saved us from going down and becoming mud pies, but we were safe. There was another ahead of us with 9.5 miles left on the road... I decided it would be best to turn around.

I got into Albuquerque, where I got to reconnect with an old friend, Jae Masse (it's only been like 20 years). It was great meeting the family and hanging out.

The following day, I set out for Apache Junction near Phoenix, AZ. Stopping to strip off some of my cold weather gear, a passerby asked where I was going and suggested taking a route through Tonto National Forest. It turned out to be a really nice ride, even with the construction all over.

Today, while packing up, one of the plastic clips from my bungee net broke and hit me in the nose; it stung a bit. Before leaving Mesa, I had to visit with an old childhood friend, Humpty Dumpty. Apparently, the talented Kimber Fiebiger put him back together, and he looks amazing. What accident?

Finally making it to California and looking for a day with fewer miles (averaging 430 a day),  I stopped at Joshua Tree National Park to see skull rock and the Dr. Seussian trees that are there.
